Action Aid Uk - Who Pays?
This new campaign from ActionAid UK aims to stop the abuse of producers in less 'developed' countries by the big UK supermarkets - you know the ones, persistantly selling at ridiculously low prices that may seem great for us as consumers, until we think about what effect that has on the suppliers!
The Who Pays Report [pdf] explores the supply chain of various products from grower and supplier to the supermarket shelves. It reveals some of the most abusive cases of low prices keeping millions of people (particularly women) in poverty with little or no means of escaping from the situation or being able to adequately support their families.
ActionAid needs our help to force government into creating a healthy, ethical and long-term sustainable relationship between overseas workers and the UK supermarkets they supply. This essentially means you and I as the supermarkets only survive if we continue to shop there.
